Maldonado Park is part of the CONSULTORÍA NACIONAL PARA LA RECUPERACIÓN, RECALIFICACIÓN, RESIGNIFICACIÓN Y ENVERDECIMIENTO DE ESPACIOS PÚBLICOS URBANOS, a collaboration between Uruguay's Ministry of Environment, the Uruguayan International Cooperation Agency, and AECID funding. The project "Urban Actions for the Sustainable Recovery of Cities in Uruguay" aims to enhance urban public spaces by incorporating nature-based solutions, improving tree management, and repurposing unused areas, while promoting urban and peri-urban agriculture with agroecological practices to strengthen cities' resilience to climate change.
This deliverable corresponds to Product 4: the design of three preliminary projects in Fray Bentos, Maldonado, and San José. These projects focus on urban recovery and public space greening through nature-based solutions to adapt to and reduce identified climate risks.
Maldonado Park follows a natural stream and incorporates artificial lagoons to manage water runoff, mitigate flooding, and enhance biodiversity. Workshops with local communities shaped the design, ensuring alignment with needs and fostering long-term care and identity.
