Fray Bentos Park is part of the CONSULTORÍA NACIONAL PARA LA RECUPERACIÓN, RECALIFICACIÓN, RESIGNIFICACIÓN Y ENVERDECIMIENTO DE ESPACIOS PÚBLICOS URBANOS, a collaboration between Uruguay's Ministry of Environment, the Uruguayan International Cooperation Agency, and AECID funding. The project "Urban Actions for the Sustainable Recovery of Cities in Uruguay" focuses on enhancing urban public spaces with nature-based solutions, improving tree management, and reimagining disused areas while promoting agroecological urban and peri-urban agriculture to strengthen climate resilience.
This deliverable, as part of Product 4, outlines the design of three preliminary projects in Fray Bentos, Maldonado, and San José, prioritizing urban recovery and public space greening. Positioned along a riverbank, the design integrates artificial lagoons to manage water variability, minimize flood risks, and foster biodiversity. Public workshops shaped a contemporary design that balances ecological preservation with recreational needs, ensuring local engagement and sustainable use. These preliminary plans can transition into executive-level projects for rapid implementation.
