San José Park is part of the CONSULTORÍA NACIONAL PARA LA RECUPERACIÓN, RECALIFICACIÓN, RESIGNIFICACIÓN Y ENVERDECIMIENTO DE ESPACIOS PÚBLICOS URBANOS, a collaboration between Uruguay's Ministry of Environment, the Uruguayan International Cooperation Agency, and AECID funding. The project "Urban Actions for the Sustainable Recovery of Cities in Uruguay" enhances urban public spaces by implementing nature-based solutions, improving arboricultural planning, and repurposing underused areas. It also promotes agroecological urban and peri-urban agriculture to boost cities' climate resilience.
This deliverable corresponds to Product 4, which focuses on the design of three preliminary projects in Fray Bentos, Maldonado, and San José. San José Park is situated in a wetland area and incorporates artificial lagoons for water management, flood mitigation, and biodiversity promotion. Its design aligns with community needs identified in workshops, offering recreational spaces and ecological education zones. The project’s nature-based approach reduces urban heat effects while ensuring easy implementation of executive-level projects in future phases.
